Impact June 2017: Service Projects & Women's Issues

June 2018 donations will be posted when available; below are the June 2017 Impact donations so you can see the organizations the Foundation has previously impacted.

The Foundation was proud to continue its mission of service in June.

Our first service project of the month was done in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas.  After consulting with RMDH and nurses at their affiliated hospitals, we determined that a need existed for those parents who find themselves staying at a hospital unexpectedly because of a sick child. To help alleviate that need, we decided to create Overnight Bags to be given to those parents.  In a reusable drawstring backpack, we placed the essentials that a parents might need for an overnight stay: toiletry kit, t-shirt, sweatpants, change of underwear, a journal and pen for keeping doctor’s notes, a lightweight fleece blanket and warm socks for cold hospital rooms and a note of encouragement. 50 bags were donated in all and we can only hope that those bags will help make a difficult situation a tiny bit easier.

In both our Wheaton and Austin offices, we came together to help less fortunate kids have a great summer.  Reliving a bit of our own childhood days, we held a Lunch-n-Serve in Wheaton to assemble 42 baskets full of things that would make summertime fun for kids including bubble wands, squirt guns, puzzles, beach balls, coloring books and crayons and of course, lemonade. In addition, our Wheaton employees donated another 30 baskets they created on their own which also included things such as card games, personalized water bottles, light-up glow sticks and fun snacks. All 72 baskets in Wheaton were donated to School District 15 to be distributed to elementary school families on the homeless and free-lunch rosters.

Holding their own, our employees in Austin took it upon themselves to also create Summer Fun/Welcome Home Baskets. Eleven baskets brimming with fun and comforting items were donated to the residents of Saint Louise House which provides housing and essential services in Austin to women with children who are experiencing homelessness.

While we strive to serve other year-round, the Foundation is especially proud when First Trust employees come together to make a meaningful impact in our communities.
